Championship Round of GT Asia to be held in Macau

The GT Asia Series will for the first time, end the season as part of the illustrious 58th Macau Grand Prix 2011.

In the past, the Series has been a part of the event, but only as an invitational race. This year the invitation extended to the GT Asia Series will be to end the 2011 season with a Championship round being held as part of the Macau Grand Prix.

“We are honoured to be extended this invitation from the Macau GP and we are happy that they have recognised the Series in this way. We would also like to extend our thank you to the Supercar Club Hong Kong for all their hard work and their great cooperation with the Macau GP organizers this past three years” said David Sonenscher, CEO of Motorsport Asia.

The GT Asia Series Round 11 will be integrated into the Macau GT Cup held during the 58th Macau Grand Prix 2011 in Asia’s Monaco – the Guia International Circuit. The street circuit is a 6.2km clockwise track, set in the middle of busy Macau.

The race format will mainly remain the same, with two qualifying sessions being held and drives having to compete in a 40-minute race, which is roughly 20-laps.

“The MGP organisers have also confirmed they will be a part of the ‘GT Annual Presentation Party’ to present the trophies and awards to the GT Asia Series 2011 winning drivers and teams” added Paul Yao, CEO of Supercar Club Hong Kong, co organiser of the GT Asia Series.

The Macau GT Cup Qualifying 1 will be held on Friday, 18th November, Qualifying 2 on Saturday, 19th November while the race itself will be held on Sunday, 20th November 2011.

The GT Asia Series is supported by Michelin tyres, Graham London and Auto Art. The Series is organised by Motorsport Asia and Supercar Club Hong Kong.
