Freed is liberating but not on a bed of roses

Life requires that we be flexible in order to work through it, therefore the tools of our trade should be multipurpose as well. Mobility is a very important aspect of our everyday lives, needing to do the school run for the kids, perhaps the occasional lugging of certain things that are of large dimensions and reliability on the road.

So not all of us have kids or are monetarily limited when it comes to buying a family mover but an MPV is looking mighty multipurposeful in fulfilling the requirements above. …

Forte is Kia’s new forte

Admittedly we’re not a blessed crowd in regards to the choice of vehicles available to us. Be it poor fuels, being a controlled market or other factors, variety isn’t the spice of our lives everytime we walk into a showroom.

So unless your pockets run really deep, value for money is the deal-clincher when it’s time to sign on the dotted line. That exact virtue was just what the Japanese offered back in the day, best bang-for-the-buck.

Fast forward to the current and even the Jap offerings are starting to creep …

Experiencing the Satria Neo CPS R3 Lotus Racing Edition

We were supposed to get the test drive at Proton’s own circuit somewhere in HICOM, Shah Alam last week. And believe me when I say it was an utter disaster for me right from the morning. My beloved ride went cranky and had to be brought to its doctor. The check up went on until almost 4pm… and I was supposed to already be there at HICOM. Close to 4pm… my ride was ready and I rushed off to HICOM, Shah Alam via only to be pulled over by the …

A Beautiful French Lion for under RM100K

The Peugeot 308 VTi is a worthy successor to the Peugeot 307, and a test drive over a weekend together with a lovely local actress Diana Rusdi was all that was needed to confirm this. Diana joined the Traffic crew in testing out the Peugeot 308VTi not only because she’s friends with the Traffic crew, but also because she likes cars.
When Diana was informed by the Traffic crew that the Peugeot 308VTi was being reviewed, she made it clear that she wanted to check the car out as well, as …

Peugeot 308Turbo: A Four-Door Hatchback with a Little Bit More Kick

The Peugeot 308Turbo is not just any four-door hatchback dispatched from the Gallic region of the European continent. What it is, is an exciting and fun to drive four-door hatchback that allows for some bursts of speed and acceleration while being what it was designated to be in the first place, a compact people or family mover.
At the heart of the Peugeot 308Turbo, the source of some fun and excitement at the wheel, is the same engine that powers the 207 GTI, the 1.6-litre petrol turbo powerplant that was co-developed …

Megane CC is no French maid but she’ll still clean you up

Lets be honest, the cold-bloodedness of the local auto industry tax structure hasn’t been especially kind to niche models. So as you can imagine, niche models, such as convertibles, don’t really entice because of the price.

Being a demand and supply catch, car manufacturers understandably don’t list convertibles on the top of the ‘New Model Import’ list for us.

Therefore, in order for a convertible to sell marginally well on our shores, it can’t just be a convertible but needs a little dose of bipolar disorder for it to project some sense …

Mazda Astina B6: Found and Lost

I have never dreamed that one day I would be driving a modified car, since my heart and soul had been firmly planted on Yoshimura pipes and Battlax tires with the throttle on my right hand and the clutch on my left. So you can probably say I was a little shocked when I was, errr, influenced to install 17-inches on all fours of my Mazda Astina with super-hard Hi-Lo PRS Adjustables and found myself dreaming of that sweet, sweet B8 engine with LSD gearbox.
I blame Botak and Am for …

Prowling Monster Laser

Back in the mid 90′s, Ford was considered as one of the best platform for modification especially the Laser model… regardless whether it was the hatchback or the infamous Ford Laser coupe or Ford ‘Sampan’ as we used to know it back in the days. Damn I’m old.
The most prefered power transplant was Mazda’s B6 with sneezing turbo, the B8 180hp or the B8 210hp for those with a bit more cash in their quest for power. Since then, Ford lost its touch with ‘em modders even when they came …

Saga SE: Tame enough to be wild

Anyone reading this would know which one is the Proton Saga, right? No, I’m not talking about the new models but the old ones, with manual tranny or auto? Well, if you’ve had a Saga before when you’ve just gotten your license or driven one, then you know that the old Saga is neither the grandest nor the most luxury of cars. It may be cheap, may be the weapon of choice when participating in a certain race in Pasir Gudang, and it may be your daily driven car now.
But …

S40 2.0’s New Powershift Transmission for a Smoother Drive

The rising concern and attentiveness of the masses, or rather the general public towards fluctuating fuel prices has brought about a bold move by Volvo Cars Malaysia, who recently made available the new S40 2.0 Powershift in Malaysia as a move apparently in sync with the worldwide shift towards reduced fuel consumption.

The new Volvo S40 2.0’s innovative Powershift transmission provides a smoother and seamless drive which also translates to an even better fuel efficiency compared to the 2.4litre version which has been available in Malaysia for the last couple of …

New C5: A Testament to French Finesse

Inside & Out
Every now and then we get lucky, in the sense that we come across a test car that we really like to drive and would love to keep. The new Citroen C5 is a premium executive sedan that we liked very much and would love to keep. The new Citroen C5 was released last year but has only just reached Malaysian shores. From a first glance and impression, it is unmistakably French, through and through.
The Citroen C5 faces the same task that its predecessors had failed to live …

A class act of a compact car

For many, especially compact car enthusiasts and fans, this curiously-styled, boxy little Perodua Kenari that has been totally transformed into a unique and to some, rather interesting and odd-looking compact car, is a way and means of being different on the road and a form of expression of one’s liking and passion for classy and stylish compact motoring.

Compact cars like the Perodua Kenari, Perodua Viva, Perodua Kelisa, and even the likes of the Hyundai Atos and the Naza Sutera, or Forza as it is known as nowadays, are no longer …

Nissan ups the ante in the 4×4 twincab pick-up truck segment with the imposing Navara + Virtual Mod

Apart from offroaders, 4×4 and offroad enthusiasts, as well as contractors, it is puzzling as to why anyone, especially urban dwellers whose contact and exposure to the great outdoors has mostly been from their living room through the idiot box, might want to own and drive a twincab pick-up truck with offroad capability daily in the urban jungle.

4×4 twincab pick-up trucks have always been looked at and perceived to be a workhorse, or a machine for those who crave for and undertake extreme adventures through extreme conditions. These are vehicles …

A night of riding Shotgun

It’s been quite awhile since I got my hands on a crotch rocket and I was ecstatic when I got the permission from the owner to have a try on it. My first ever ride was a C70 ‘Kapcai’ and it was quite a horrid experience as I accidentally wheelied the bike into a 13-foot drain at the first rev while leaving the pillion face-first into the tarmac. After that first experience,  there was quite a few accidents I had but as someone who I can’t quite recall his name …

Satria Neo CPS – A handsome devil

While it’s easy to justify what really is our favourite or not, we didn’t have a clear result while debating on the new Satria Neo CPS. Sure enough, almost every time the car is brought onto the dining table, we’d be listening to one side saying the car is perfect, while the other side will say that it doesn’t fit their physical attribute.

While many would probably know by now that the car is running on the new CPS (Cam Profile Switching) engine, which spurts out 125hp at 6500rpm and 150Nm of …

V50 2.4: A Beautiful, Smart & Compact Estate by Volvo + Virtual Mod

The Volvo V50 2.4 Estate in my humble opinion is one of the most beautiful cars to be found on our roads, which were once regarded as one of the best roads in South-East Asia, so much so local road contractors were once engaged for the construction of new roads and the upgrading of existing ones in the biggest democratic country in the world, India.
Back to focus, the V50 2.4 not only looks good from the outside, it also looks deceivingly good on the inside as well. Some might be …
