Carving corners with the S1000RR + Video

Published on June 14th, 2009

Here’s something that’ll make you two-wheeler fanatics drool with instant pleasure. BMW has just added another fine machine into its superbike’s lineup; the S1000RR.

BMW claimed the S1000RR to be the lightest superbike in its category, weighing at 206.5kg in road trim with full tank, with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). It comes with the best power-to-weight ratio in its class with an astonishing 1.05 and, respectively, 1.06kg per horsepower with or without Race ABS.

The new engine is capable of spurting out 193 horses at 13,000rpm and 112Nm of torque at 9,750rpm, which should be more than enough for taking corners and the straights. The bike comes with optional Race ABS and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC).

The engine follows the example of BMW’s Formula One engine with the two intake and exhaust valves per cylinder are made of extra-light titanium and are operated by very small and equally light single cam followers. In conjunction with the short sprocket driving the camshaft via an intermediate gear, this ensures supreme revving qualities at the highest speed as well as exact maintenance of valve timing combined with very compact dimensions.

Yes, we wish we can do this too.

Coupled with the two optional equipments, the S1000RR is the only supersports machine with Race ABS and DTC.

Rider can change their riding mode with just a touch of a button. Available modes are for wet roads (“Rain”), regular road conditions (“Sport”), race track with supersport tyres (“Race”) and race track with slick tyres (“Slick”). The modes will determine the engine’s characteristics and how it’ll respond.

Factory and serial production. Either one will do thank you, with full tank preferably.

Damper elements come with a wide range of adjustment on the spring base, the inbound and rebound stroke as well as the greatest damping reserves, particularly for racing. For the easy riders, S1000RR comes with optional HP Gearshift assistant for shifting up without operating the clutch while still maintaining its performance without any interruption.

The S1000RR is built with BMW’s typical quality in mind that provides extreme pleasure while enjoying one of the most remarkable engineering the world has ever seen. General Director of BMW Motorrad, Hendrik von Kuenheim, has confirmed that only 1,000 of the serial production bike will be built. So hurry up!
