Bukit Putus Charity Challenge 2011 Attracted Many Touge Enthusiast

Published on May 4th, 2011

Bukit Putus was filled with high-revving sound yesterday (Saturday 30th April 2011) as the inaugural Bukit Putus Charity Challenge 2011 (BPCC 2011) ~ King of the Hill 2011 had filled the schedules of Touge enthusiasts, ranging from 1.2-liter Datsun 120Y all the way to the veracious Lamborghini Super Veloce.

The one-day event was organised by B Artistic Events & Advertising Sdn Bhd, observed by Malaysian Automotive Association (MAM) and the time-attack challenge was managed by Traffic Magazine Online.

Bukit Putus Charity Challenge took place at the legendary hilly road at Bukit Putus, Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan with a total distance of 3.3km uphill, which ended on the second last turn before the clearing at the top.

The event was flagged off by BPCC official ambassador, Ms. Fauziah Latiff who came with a group of superbikers to show their supports.

A total of 37 cars had participated in this charity event, competing under three categories. The categories are Group A for supercars, Group B for 1,600cc and above, and Group C for 1,500cc and below.

Cars that had been participated in this charity challenge were Proton Saga, Wira, Toyota Starlet, Honda EF9, Datsun 120Y, Volvo 850, Volvo T5, Volvo 240GL, Honda Civic, Lotus Elise, Lotus Exige, Ferrari F430 and California, Lamborghini Super Veloce, Gallardo and a vintage Lamborghini Countach, and a number of Porsches including the latest GT3RS.

B Artistic Events & Advertising Sdn Bhd is planning to turn the challenge into a series consisting of three rounds per year.

Che Aziyah Tengku Idris, Director of B Artistic Events & Advertising Sdn Bhd said, “We are proud and excited to be able to turn Touge, which is one of the most popular run in Japan into an official event in Malaysia. The word “touge” itself literally mean ‘mountain pass’ in Japanese. We want to create an awareness whereby it can be safe and fun activity if it is done in a controlled environment and responsible mind.”

“We would like to thank Ms. Fauziah Latiff for her willingness to support the event by becoming our official ambassador. Many thanks and appreciations also to the Organising Committee of Bukit Putus Charity Challenge, all the sponsors, team in B Artistic Events & Advertising Sdn Bhd, Yayasan Penyuluh Bakti, Traffic Magazine Online, Motorsport Association of Malaysia (MAM), Lotus Car Club of Malaysia, Blue Jackets Society, Volvo Owners Club of Malaysia (VOCM), EP Motor Club (EPMC), touge enthusiasts, government bodies and agencies, and all parties for turning this into a reality and success!.”

“God willing, we will ensure continuity with this Charity Challenge. It had good turn-ups, and we look forward for more.”

One of the participants, Mohd Ridzuan Ali, or better known among Touge enthusiasts as Oreedo, commented on the event afterwards.

“Alhamdulillah, it was a good event. It was very good, fun and challenging and obviously, the event had good turn-ups. Personally, we as drivers really appreciate going through windy roads in a very controlled environment.”

“There are a few things that can be improved though. Many gave 100 percent commitment to arrive early, and some even stayed nearby the night before. Little delay of some participants’ arrival led to delay of the launch made it a little uncomfortable for some participants.”

“The commitment given by most participants was astounding. A team was actually came with full racing suit and rally intercom system. They stayed in those suits for the whole day, under the hot sun and gave full professional attitude throughout the day.”

“As for the venue, the facilities are perfect. We could perform our Solat here, there’s food and beverages, clean toilets and the safety measures taken are above my expectations. If the organizer will host this event again, I trust there will be a lot more interest and participants. Why not turn this into a two-day event?,” he added.

Oreedo was driving a silver Toyota Starlet Glanza V with automatic transmission, which is his wife’s daily drive.

milie, timing was supplied and advised by jagjeet of wheelspin. the timing mechanism used was as the same as rally… so it should be accurate enough compared to stopwatch and any other devices.
