BMW is certified stylishly safe

Bavaria’s finest has always been touted as the ultimate driving machines and recent victories in three categories at the 2010 Auto Bild Design Awards has designated those chunks of metal as lookers while the brand’s sixth-generation 5 Series has, like its numeric name, been awarded the maximum 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests.

“These accomplishments serve as further proof that BMW is the true leader in the premium vehicle segment, and are a true testament to the success of our design philosophy and strategies.” said Geoffrey Briscoe, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia.

Auto Bild, together with its 20 European sister publications, calls on its over 40 million readers to nominate the best designed cars of the year. This year saw the nominations of 103 production and concept vehicles for review.

The 5 Series, X1 and the concept Vision EfficientDynamics held their own in their respective categories to snatch the award.

Testament to the style and fluidity of the BMW designs, this is the second time this year that BMW has been recognized for its design prowess, following the Red Dot Award 2010 it picked up earlier in the year.

The group’s victory in the concept car category is further recognition for its developments in innovative design language. Combining innovative driving technology with futuristic design features, the Vision EfficientDynamics is a plug-in hybrid four-seater sports car with a wing door assembly and foreshadows the future of Bavaria’s driving machines.

Style aside, safety is paramount in a modern vehicle and the 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating further reinforces the brand’s quality. Incorporating various occupant protection systems, pedestrian protection and standard safety features, the 5 Series is the first BMW model to notch a 100 per cent score in the Euro NCAP crash test ratings.
