Block stacks up his blocks for the WRC

Published on October 17th, 2009

The onslaught of globalization may have raised the bar for that ‘shock factor’ of unique stuff that’s lucky enough to get a death grip on our short attention span so for something to actually stop us men thinking about sex every seven seconds it has to be lightyears ahead of that ‘Holy Sh!t’ factor because awesome is just so 2000-and-late.

So unless you’ve a toe tag attached to yourself chances are about the same as a writer hooking up with Elizabeth Hurley (Yeah… her sell-by dates rolled past twice over but its Breast Cancer Awareness Month for which she’s the ambassador and she still knows how to stir our loins into a frenzy) that you didn’t click replay on those Ken Block videos.

Petrol-head or not, showboating and general tomfoolery of the highest order such as this is as clear as a wet sheer top that the man has more skills behind the wheel of a car in his pinky finger than most of us have in our bodies 10-times over.

So it makes sense to see the driver-extraordinaire on the dusty trail to a WRC drive next year.

Don’t expect Block to be piloting his Gymkhana-prepped Impreza though as Subaru has made haste out of the WRC series. Instead, news from the grapevine indicates the DC Shoes founder might find himself sending a Ford Focus sideways on gravel.

Those same whispers paint a rough sketch of former Subaru driver Chris Atkinson as his teammate in the 2009-spec Ford Focus WRC for the Monster Energy Drink World Rally Team.

Nothing’s carved in forged aluminium yet but once the designs have gone from planning to production expect to see the duo in a select number of rounds in next year’s calendar before going the full-mile the year after in the new rally-spec Fiesta.

Just for reminiscence’s sake, we’ve included both of Block’s gymkhana videos with an extra of Block and Atkinson thrashing a rally-prepped Ford Escort around a dirt trail (was it a sign of things to come?).
