First race of the year and first podium for the “EUROFORMULA VOLANT” 2010 who achieved a faultless round during this challenge fought out on the difficult MONZA track which he was discovering for the first time.

After some “studious” tests which saw him evolve to lead positions, Paul Loup Chatin qualified 4th and 3rd respectively for the two races.

Having brushed with victory in the first race, Paul Loup started the second race with a real ambition to win. The “EUROFORMULA VOLANT” had an excellent start which propelled him to the lead but he was caught out by the rubber left on the track from the endurance race which blocked his wheels when he applied the brakes in the first chicane, forcing him to cut across. With a “drive through” penalty, Paul Loup CHATIN started again in 10th and crashed trying to make up time, race over and frustration guaranteed!

Paul Loup Chatin: “I could have won yesterday but at MONZA it is difficult to wrangle that move to get away, and today I had made the ‘gap’ on second, Yan Zimmer, but I clocked a penalty although I had eased off on the acceleration after cutting across the chicane. The decision is frustrating for me because a lot of drivers did the same thing throughout the weekend, including Yan Zimmer, and did not get penalised. Then, annoyed to see my first victory in FORMULA RENAULT 2.0 go up in smoke, I crashed while trying to overtake and it was race over. I am both disappointed because I could have won and satisfied with this first weekend because I leave with a second place. Not only that but the TECH 1 team did some good work which is promising for the coming races.”

“Sure, we would have liked Paul Loup to finish the meeting in MONZA with a victory which was within his reach,” said Laurent Fradon, Director of the EUROFORMULA school, “but one has to accept the decision of the Panel of Stewards even if it seems unfair. Our “VOLANT” 2010 showed all his potential and we are certain he is going to liven up the EUROCUP pack from the very first race. Paul Loup will know how to draw lessons from this weekend which will make him even stronger.”

Next meeting is on the 16th and 17th April at MOTORLAND in Spain, for the first round of the EUROCUP.
