The curtain was drawn to a close on the AFOS speed syndrome in Sentul last weekend with Renaldo Koesoemo taking victory ahead of his ASH Motorsports teammate Hari Dharma Manoppo in the Asian Touring Car Series.

Starting from eleventh on the grid behind Manoppo in tenth, Koesoemo and Manoppo carved the field wide open to move to near the lead, leaving the likes of Frank Yee, Adrian Henry D’Silva, Danny Stacy Chau, Gary Sham, Chin Tzer Jinn and Charles Ng trailing in their wake. Mind you, this massacre was in the first lap alone.

Ahead of the field, current championship leader Cheung Chi Sing of Team IMSP- S&D was leading the pack with teammate Man Ting Yu tailing. However, duo of Koesoemo and Manoppo soon double-teamed them one corner at a time and moved into the lead.

From then on it was a two-horse race as the Indonesian duo axed it out for the lead. Although Manoppo was heading the pack, Koesoemo was clocking the fastest time of the day and soon laid claim to the lead on lap 11.

“I started in eleventh and at the start I overtook the car in front of me and then I just followed Hari and after the second lap we were in the lead. He was really quick and it was difficult to follow him but in the end, I think he gave me way because we have known each other since we were teenagers, so I have to say Thank You to my friend,” he said with a laugh while patting his good friend on the back.

“I actually had a bit of a gearbox problem since the second race which got worse as the race went on. I could not shift the gears. At the start I only managed a good pace because I was pushing so hard and at the end, the gearbox could not take it anymore and it began to get worse so I just decided to slow down a little,” added a satisfied and tired Manoppo.

Third spot went to Ting Yu after Cheung suffered brake gremlins on lap five that quite literally halted his race.

Behind them, Danny Chau drove a brilliant race to maintain his fourth position ahead of JPM Nexus Racing driver, D’Silva and S&D Motorsport F.Yee.
