Three teams tops the list this 2013 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix that is Red Bull Racing Renault, the McLaren Mercedes and Ferrari as they push forward with excellent figures where Vettel leads on Saturday’s qualifying followed by Massa and Alonso from Ferrari. But on race day itself, the changes were two of the Red Bulls on the podium where Sebastian Vettel maintained position followed by his team mate Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton on third making the first for the team McLaren Mercedes to achieve a podium win in this round.
The race started on the dot at 4.05 pm today with the track conditions a little bit on the wet here and there after an early downpour. All of the teams opt for the intermediate tyres to begin the race and that is indeed a no surprise. Vettel starts at pole position followed by Felipe Massa and last year’s champion, Alonso on the third placing. Although Alonso suffered at lap 2 when his front wing clipped and went underneath the tyres resulting his lost of steering and straight into the gravel at turn one. He was at position two when it happened. Only hope to gain points for Ferarri is upon Felipe Massa which is at fifth place behind Nico Rosberg at the end of the day.
Mark Webber holds majority lead throughout the race until the fight went on hard with fellow team mate Vettel behind him. Vettel pushes on and with the team strategies on the tyre maintenance and changes, Vettel had it to his advantage and gain the lead over Webber at the last few laps of the race. Although Vettel just being opportunistic over the situation, most of us think it should be Webber on top instead of Vettel, making this the most unhappiest podium ever in this season of Formula One even though both of them had being diplomatic about it. Oh well, those are indeed traits of a true sportsmen.
As for Lewis Hamilton had maintained position mostly throughout the race with the occasional challenges from team mate Nico Rosberg tailing him close. With this the Mclaren fans had their fair share of excitement as the two fought for the third place.
In the end, the Malaysian Grand Prix has always been a series of events worth watching. Amongst it were crashes during in and out of the pit lane, the over shots spills and of course, the epic Lewis Hamilton pitting into the wrong home at McLaren’s during lap eight. As the race ends, celebrations were needed, post race discusion were noted and the VIPs are heading towards the parties. As the rest of us here will soldier on for more fun at the Guns’N’Roses gig for the rest of the evening.
