The heat has risen up as the day moves towards the the final hours of the Round Three of the 2013 Autobacs SuperGT Series. As the day is packed with events for the masses, the teams are prepping up for their final battle later in the evening. Meanwhile, the audience were treated with many things to keep them entertain throughout the whole day.
At the mall area, the Affin Bank Motorshow gave the audiences an awesome preview of Australian’s premier street show, the Summernats, packed with muscle cars, vintage cars and super cars. Not only that, many booths of various companies showed great exposure to them with many interesting treats to the visitors.
At the stage area where it gets the most attention when the race queens made their appearances, team after teams to promote themselves while giving free giveaways to the crowd. Not only that, the Kpop dance competition pulled in the crowd even more and the house when packing at all corners.
Another interesting event that day was the biggest and the noisiest bike gathering, where bikers from all sorts of manner, super bikes, low riders, the easy riders and custom bikes rolled in on the track, leaded with the bikes from the Police Department of Malaysia as well. The ground shook and vibrated with growls, roars, rumble and screaming with sirens throughout. It is a sight and sound experience that you can only find in Sepang International Circuit. While the bikes filled the main straight of the circuit, the bikers joined the rest of the audience at the pit walk about to see cars, drivers and not forgetting the ladies. Before the main race starts, the audience had a little view of the Toyota 86 in action whereby some renown figures in Malaysian motorsports plus a few famous celebrities had their way with the Toyota 86 for five laps to warmed up the event.
After all that, the main event of the day began around 2.50pm where the GT cars had started with their procedures with laps around the track. As the ladies lined up at the track, the grid is now ready for the race as the cars were arranged at their respective grids. That is when the crew and the media made their way to the final preparation before the race starts.
The battle started at around 4pm with 54 laps with pole position teams maintained their lead most of the time with the occasional minor hiccups, pitting ins and a slight mishaps. The leader in the GT500 class, Team CALSONIC IMPUL GTR (fastest lap 1.59.625 at lap 29) showed supremacy leading the race throughout the laps while Team DENSO KOBELCO SC430 and Team RAYBRIG HSV-010 pushes on giving each other pressure to grab the podium finish.
The CR-Zs lead the way in the GT300 class with team ARTA CR-Z GT (fastest lap 2.10.938 at lap 28) leading the pack followed by Team MUGEN CR-Z GT being chased by the Team GAINER DIXCEL SLS. While another of the crowd favourite, Team Subaru BRZ R&D Sport, fared fourth place. The car had body contact during the last 15 laps, spun but lived on to finish the race. Few other mishaps was from Team NAC Koukakukidoutai Arise Dr Porsche had body contact at turn 5 and Team JLOC Manepa Lamborghini GT3 front left tyre came off at turn 13 and right away they were out of the race. The other favourable team that was unlucky that day was from Team Panasonic Prius GT who had problem with their engine. The crowd saw in awe when smokes came out of engine bay after the first 10 laps.
The two CRZs gave some excitement to the crowd that day with their battles for top position. And since they are racing for their first time here in Sepang, the chase gained the crowd’s attention at all 54 laps stealing the thunder from the GT500 cars. The days ends with glory as the winners hit the podium in celebration. In the true spirit of competition, every team was a winner as they have showed their best in this round of 2013 Autobacs SuperGT Series.
