2011 MMER: ICONIC Mercedes set to make debut for Petronas Syntium Team in the MMER

Published on September 15th, 2011

ALTHOUGH the opportunity to try out the Mercedes SLS came only 2 days before the start of the Malaysia Merdeka Millenium Endurance Race (MMER), local ace, Fariqe Hairuman is confident of the car’s ability to withstand the rigours of the 12 hour non-stop race this weekend.

“As an extension of PETRONAS’ partnership with Daimler Mercedes, we will be racing with our new car – the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3. I’m confident of the car’s ability to withstand the rigours of the 12 hour non-stoprace. Even though I only tried it out yesterday (Tuesday), I’m really impressed with the engine’s capability; and the performance of the PETRONAS Syntium.

“We already did our testing at Fuji (Japan) during the fasting month. So far they have been no issues with the setup of the car.”

“We also did the tyre testing with Yokohama. I can’t wait to bring this car out for a spin during MMER,” added Fariqe.

For Fariqe, the MMER is a very special race for him as it is the only race for him locally as he is often away racing overseas.

“I always looking forward for every year MMER, as this is the only local race for me. Most of the time I’m racing overseas and I’m always excited to be back.”

“As this year is my 10th year in MMER I’m hoping for the best. it was really an exciting home race for me here. I really can’t wait for this upcoming MMER.”

“The only time that I failed to compete is in 2001 because of prior commitments. My best achievement so far is second place overall in 2009, so this time I’m really hoping to break the duck.”

This year’s MMER is one of the toughest so far with the participation of 2 Belgian Audi teams led by Le Mans champion, Marcel Fassler.

But Fariqe is unperturbed by the competition and is confident of pulling the rug from his illustrious rivals.

“For me, I’m not really worried about the competition, what is more important is that we as a team drive according to our maximum capabilities.
