ASIA’s biggest endurance race, Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER) achieved a new milestone with the announcement of a strategic partnership with the new Abu Dhabi-based Gulf 12 Hours following the announcement of a new commercial link up between the events.

MMER, held at the Sepang International Circuit between September 15th and 17th is acknowledged as the biggest 12 hour race in the continent, hopes to share its expertise in organising an endurance race to its Middle East ‘cousin’ based on its 11 years in running the event.

In an unprecedented move, the 12th edition of the prestigious Sepang’s 12-hour endurance race will be run in September to coincide with the Malaysian Day celebrations on September 16.

Introduced at the turn of the millennium, the MMER has been an instant hit with international teams and drivers from world renown endurance series including the LeMans 24 Hours, Nurburgring 24 Hours and Dubai 24 Hours make their way to Sepang to conquer what is regarded as Asia’s Biggest Race.

“This landmark collaboration takes us a step closer in realising a union of calendars, which will ensure commercial viability for the teams and series’ organisers throughout the world. We expect an increase in team participation by at least 20%, leveraging on both event’s strengths’ said SIC Chief Executive Dato’ Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali.

The Gulf 12 Hours, which is set to debut later this year aims to act as a bridge between European to Asian motorsport; reinforcing the race’s goal of attracting a wider range of teams and drivers to compete in the region.

The affiliation will see both races support each other by sharing commercial contacts and opportunities, as well as work together to develop rules that allow teams to easily participate in both events.
