‘Ring records keep falling

Published on July 14th, 2009

This may very well be the season of ripping ‘Ring records as following in the footsteps of Godzilla shaving some seconds off its Nurburgring time, Porsche has snatched the lap record for fastest production four-door car back from across the Atlantic and brought it back to the fatherland.

Just over an annum ago, the lap-record for four-door production sedan was laid claim to by Cadillac with its John Heinricy-piloted CTS-V that brunches on BMW M5’s and the Green Hell in under eight minutes.

Now with Porsche unleashing the Panamera’s poundage onto the world, it seemed like a matter of time before Zuffenhausen’s finest reclaimed the record back to its rightful land. The Panamera Turbo and its 500hp was the best candidate for the job and rightfully did it in 7:56 minutes, a full three seconds off the Caddy’s time.

Now with the next gen BMW 5-Series along the lines and its M-iteration to follow, could the four-door production car record be hitting the Domino effect again?
